BOSTON – Sophomore Ruth White (Orono, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team was named the America East Female Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
White broke the University of New Hampshire women's track & field record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16 minutes, 3.28 seconds at the Friar Invitational, which was held April 10 at Providence College's Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field. It is the fastest time by a conference runner in the 5,000m this season.
White finished in fourth place in the 5,000m with her school-record time that shattered her previous benchmark of 16:22.78 by 19.5 seconds. In the first few laps, she was sixth in a pack of nine runners. She moved up to fifth place in a line of six runners through 1,800m, then advanced up to third place, second place and first place each of the next three splits. White was in third place through lap 10, held that position for the next 1,000m and was fourth across the finish line.
This is White's fourth career America East athlete/performer of the week award. She was named the Cross Country Female Performer of the Week twice in the 2025 season and received the Female Track Athlete of the Week award once in the 2025 outdoor season.
The UNH women's track & field team returns to action April 17 (2:30pm) and April 18 (10:30am) at the George Davis Invitational, which will be held at UMass Lowell.
