Alex Gagne & Jakob Hellsten Named to Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Two members of the 2023-24 University of New Hampshire men's hockey team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. Junior captain Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H.) and junior goalie Jakob Hellsten (Ljusdal, Sweden) earned the honor.
Gagne has a 3.51 GPA as a Sport Management and Leadership major. He was a 2023-24 Hockey East Third Team All-Star selection and was also the runner-up for the Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman Award. Gagne appeared in all 36 games this past season with one goal and 13 assists for 14 points. He led the team and was second in Hockey East with 70 blocks. Gagne was named the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Week twice during the season, earning the accolade on Jan. 8 and Feb. 19.
Hellsten posted a 3.92 GPA as an Accounting and Finance major. He went 15-12-1 in 2023-24 with a 2.04 goals against average, a .909 save percentage and five shutouts. Hellsten ranked second in Hockey East and tied for sixth in the nation in goals against average. His goals against average was also second all-time for a season in program history. Hellsten was named the Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week twice, winning the award on Jan. 8 and Mar. 11.
