Gorgenyi Leads 'Cats to Quad-Meet Win at LIU

Wildcats defeat Sharks, Yale and SCSU to improve to 4-1 on season
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Graduate student Kylie Gorgenyi (North Reading, Mass) finished first on vault, tied for first on uneven bars, earned a share of second on floor exercise and won the all-around competition to power the UNH gymnastics team to Sunday's quad-meet victory against host LIU, Yale and Southern Connecticut State at the Pratt Recreation Center.
UNH (4-1, 1-0 EAGL) scored a 195.400 to register an EAGL head-to-head win over LIU (192.825). Yale tallied a 192.350 for third place, followed by SCSU (191.925).
The Wildcats posted the highest team score on vault (48.975), tied the Sharks for the top mark on bars (48.000) and registered the high score on balance beam (48.550). UNH's top score was on floor exercise (49.075).

HOW IT HAPPENED
•In the opening rotation, Gorgenyi scored a 9.875 on uneven bars to share the event victory with LIU's Brisa Carraro. Sophomore Leah Moreno (Cary, N.C.) scored a 9.800 for fourth place.
•Sophomore Serena Mullin (Hamden, Conn.) paced the beam lineup with a 9.800, which tied for second place behind LIU's Alana Ricketts (9.850).
•Gorgenyi, senior Maya MacDonald (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and freshman Poulina Minaev (Smithtown, N.Y.) each scored a 9.875 on floor exercise to share runner-up honors to Yale's Ella Tashjian (9.900). MacDonald and Minaeav each achieved a personal best.
•The Wildcats closed the meet with a dominant vault rotation by sweeping the top four scores. Gorgenyi led the way with a 9.850 and has posted or shared the high score in five out of eight events this season. Mullin, senior Jenna DeVincenzo (Bethpage, N.Y.) and freshman McCall McMullen (Athens, Ga.) forged a three-way deadlock for second place (9.800).
NEXT UP
•The Wildcats travel to Towson on Friday, Jan. 26 for a 6 p.m. meet in TU Arena that includes the host Tigers, George Washington, LIU and Cornell. The five-team meet will serve as a precursor for the EAGL Championship, which Towson hosts at the TU Arena on Saturday, March 23.
