Martell and Williams Lead 'Cats at Vermont Quad-Meet

BURLINGTON, Vt.- Junior Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) and graduate student Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) each had two first-place finishes as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team competed in the Vermont Quad-Meet at the Frank H. Livak Track & Field Facility Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Wildcats scored 177 points to finish the meet in second place behind Vermont while outpacing St. Lawrence and Castleton.
RESULTS
FIELD EVENTS
Freshman Opal Shinnlinger (Canaan, N.H.) finished fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 125' 5" (38.23m).
Two Wildcats finished atop the shot put leaderboard with Williams winning the event with a throw of 39' 7.25" (12.07m). Freshman Lindsay Isaacs (Rutland, Mass.) came in second place with a mark of 38' 9.75" (11.83m).
The same two Wildcats once again claimed the top two spots in the hammer throw, with Williams coming out on top with a toss of 174' 10" (53.29m). Isaacs reached 124' 9" (38.02m) to finish second while Shinnlinger came in fourth with a throw of 119' 3" (36.34m).
Sophomore Olivia Chamberlain (Waterville, N.Y.) cleared a distance of 17' 8.25" (5.39m) to win the long jump. Junior Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) came in fourth place while freshman Sarah Sawyer (Milford, N.H.) came in fifth.
Sophomore Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.) won the triple jump with a distance of 37' 0.25" (11.28m).
In the pole vault, seniors Danielle Heine (Waverly, Pa.) and Taylor Nydam (Hampton Falls, N.H.) tied each other for a first-place finish, reaching a height of 10' 11.75" (3.35m). Freshmen Makena Lee (Northwood, N.H.) and Calli Ogurkis tied for third place, reaching a mark of 10' 6" (3.20m). Sophomore Ana O'Neil (St. Paul, Minn.) finished sixth with a height of 9' 2.25" (2.80m).
TRACK EVENTS
In the 100m hurdles, freshman Kristen Kirk came in fourth place with a time of 17.90 seconds while sophomore Teagan O'Brien (Pawcatuck, Conn.) came in fifth less than a second later at 18.78 seconds.
Sophomores Nadege Masumbuko (Manchester, N.H.) and Gwenyth Dahlinger (Pelham, N.H.) competed in the 100m dash, finishing back-to-back in third and fourth place as Masumbuko crossed the finish line at 13.59 seconds with Dahlinger close behind at 13.77 seconds.
Martell continued her strong start to the spring for the Wildcats, clocking in at 56.58 seconds to claim the top finish in the 400m run. Sophomore Kaitlin Lennox (Hampton Falls, N.H.) came in third place with a time of 1:01.76 while freshman Elizabeth Breiby (Burlington, Mass.) finished ninth in the event.
Junior Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) won the 800m run with a time of 2:22.39 while freshman Zoe Catrambone (Cranston, R.I.) came in fourth place at 2:26.56.
Martell won her second event of the day with a time of 26.32 seconds in the 200m dash. Junior Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.) came in second place half a second behind Martell at 26.82 seconds. Dahlinger finished fifth in the event and Masumbuko took eighth place.
Junior Silvia Caddell (Salem, N.H.) placed fourth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:44.23.
Sophomore Alice Larsen (Hinesburg, Vt.) crossed the finish line in 19:44.27 to come in third place in the 5000m run.
The team of Taranko, Masumbuko, Dahlinger, and Fraser finished second in the 4x100m relay race with a time of 51.62 seconds.
Lennox, Caddell, Doody, and Agri teamed up to win the 4x400m relay race with a time of 4:06.52. The squad of O'Brien, Kirk, junior Madison Hoppler (Durham, N.H.), and Ogurkis came in third place at 4:19.91 to podium with their teammates.

The Wildcats return to action when they travel to the UConn Northeast Challenge at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. on Friday, April 14-15.
