AMESBURY, Mass. – Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario), a grad student on the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team, was named the Army ROTC Defender of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
Breton recorded an assist and a blocked shot and also had a +2 rating in UNH's 3-0 win against Harvard University at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Nov. 21. Her pass out of the defensive zone led to a breakaway goal that gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead early in the third period. Breton was also on the ice for the first goal of the game at 17:46 of the opening stanza, and that proved to be the game-winning tally.
New Hampshire (7-7-1 overall, 4-5-1 Hockey East) continues its seven-game homestand this weekend against the College of the Holy Cross (Dec. 1) and University of Vermont (Dec. 2). Both games start at 6 p.m. and are part of the Wildcat Toy Drive. Buy tickets online by CLICKING HERE or by calling (603) 862-4000 or visiting the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex ticket office.
Through 15 games this season, Breton ranks second in the nation and Hockey East with a team-high 41 blocks. She has been credited with a blocked shot in 11 of 15 games with multiple blocks in 10 games, including a career-high nine Oct. 13 at the University of Maine.
Breton was named Hockey East's Army ROTC Defender of the Month for September/October. She has been received the league's Defender of the Week award three times this season. Breton was previously honored Oct. 9 & 16.
