Boucher and Verrier Record Two Assists Apiece in 4-3 Loss at Maine

First-Year Wildcat Sara Boucher Eclipses 150 Career Points
ORONO, Maine – Senior assistant captain Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) and grad student Sara Boucher (Burlington, Ontario) recorded two points apiece but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was upended 4-3 by the University of Maine at Alfond Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 35 saves, including 22 in the second period. Senior Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.), Alyson Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) and Sadie Makokis (St. Albert, Alberta) scored UNH's goals.
Mikayla Boarder, Haley Ryan, Adriana Van De Leest and Raegan Wurm each scored a goal while Julia Bachetti stopped 31 shots, including 17 in the third period.
UNH moves to 12-13-1 overall and 8-11-0 in Hockey East. Maine is now 8-18-1, 7-12-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- The shots were even 8-8 and Maine took a 3-2 lead in the opening 20 minutes.
- A UNH giveaway at the point led to a Ryan breakaway down the right wing and she gave Maine a 1-0 lead on the first shot of the game at 2:04.
- Hammer tied the game, 1-1, at 5:02 when the puck redirected off her skate into the net. Verrier, with the initial shot in the slot, and Boucher set up the goal.
- Hush's power-play goal gave the 'Cats a 2-1 lead at 9:39. Verrier received a return pass from Andi Calderone (Kirkland, Quebec) at the right point and slipped a diagonal pass to the low slot, where Hush redirected the puck inside the left post.
- Maine scored goals 43 seconds apart on Van De Leest's power-play tally at 13:15 and Wurm's goal at 13:58.
- UNH had a flurry of three shot attempts in the final five seconds as Hush wristed a shot off the crossbar from the slot, then Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) had a shot attempt blocked low on the right side and Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius Minn.) sent a shot just wide of the right post at the buzzer.
SECOND PERIOD
- Maine recorded a 23-9 shot advantage in the second stanza and both teams scored one goal.
- Makokis scored UNH's second power-play goal of the game to tie the score, 3-3, at 3:41. Boucher gained possession of the puck along the left boards and backhanded a pass to the point, where Makokis fired a slapshot that sailed inside the far post. Truter was credited with the secondary assist.
- Boarder scored off a rebound at 17:24 to put Maine back in the lead, 4-3.
THIRD PERIOD
- New Hampshire generated a 17-8 shot advantage in the scoreless third period.
- UNH went on its fourth power play at 14:30 but Bachetti stopped the one shot on target to preserve the home team's one-goal lead.
- The Wildcats pulled Blair in favor of an extra skater with 2:32 to play.
- Maddie Crowley-Cahill (Haverhill, Mass.) ripped a shot from the high slot through traffic that was gloved by Bachetti with 1:55 on the clock.
- Verrier's rising shot from the left circle ricocheted off Bachetti's mask with 1:37 left.
- With 65 seconds left, Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) crashed the net and was denied, then Boucher's attempt off the rebound was blocked by a Maine skater and Calderone was denied by Bachetti.
- Boucher led a rush down the left wing and snapped a low shot that Bachetti snared with her glove with 17 seconds remaining.
- UNH called a timeout, controlled the ensuing faceoff but Bachetti once again denied point-blank shots by Alvarez and Boucher.
- Another scrum in front led to another chance by Alvarez at the top of the crease.
- Maine was whistled for a penalty with 4.5 seconds remaining. UNH once again controlled possession on the faceoff. Bachetti stopped shots by Alvarez and Calderone, then time expired just before Verrier's shot crossed the goal line.
- UNH's offense crashed the net in the last 17 seconds to generate six shots on goal but could not score the equalizer.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Boucher recorded her 150th career point with the first of her two assists. She has 151 career points with 74 goals and 77 assists in 153 games (6-8-14 in 26 games at UNH).
- Boucher extended her point streak to four games. She has five points (1g, 4a) in the streak.
- It was Boucher's first two-assist game and third multiple-point game as a Wildcat.
- Blair set a personal single-period high of 22 saves in the second period.
- Blair recorded 30+ saves for the seventh time this season.
- Verrier matched her career high of two assists and won 11 faceoffs.
- In addition to recording an assist, Truter won a season-high 17 faceoffs with a .739 win percentage in the circle (17 of 23).
- Calderone, Crowley-Cahill and Verrier each recorded two blocks.
