Breton Named Army ROTC Defender of the Month by Hockey East

AMESBURY, Mass. – Grad student Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario) of the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was named the Army ROTC Defender of the Month by Hockey East on Wednesday.
Breton spent the majority of October atop the national leaderboard in blocks and has a league-high 27, which is currently No. 2 in the nation. She also recorded three points on a goal and two assists and had an even plus/minus rating through October.
UNH returns to action Nov. 3 (6 p.m.) at Providence College and the teams face off again Nov. 4 (7 p.m.) at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex. Tickets are available online by CLICKING HERE or by calling (603) 862-4000 or visiting the Whitt ticket office.
Breton was honored as the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Week consecutive weeks – Oct. 9 & 16.
She recorded multiple blocks in 7 of 10 games with a career high of nine at the University of Maine on Oct. 13; in that game, she scored what proved to be the game-winning goal when she gave UNH a 3-0 lead.
Breton had established a best of five blocked shots the previous game vs. nationally-ranked Quinnipiac University on Oct. 7. On opening weekend, she was credited with four blocks Oct. 1 against St. Michael's College.
Freshman forward Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) was named runner up for the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month. Leonard recorded three goals and four assists for a total of seven points in 10 games. The seven points tied for second on the team and the four assists tied for third. Her other stats included two power-play goals, a +1 rating and team-high 96 faceoff wins.
