‘Cats Defeat UMass Lowell, 69-65, to Claim Second Place in America East

Daniels secures fourth consecutive double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds
DURHAM, N.H. – Juniors Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Kyree Brown (Oakland, Calif.) each recorded double-doubles in a 69-65 win against UMass Lowell at Lundholm Gymnasium, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, UNH moves into second place in the America East standings, improving to 10-10 (5-3 AE) and UMass Lowell falls to 17-6 (5-4 AE).

FIRST HALF
- The 'Cats and the River Hawks traded baskets for the first four minutes of action leaving the Wildcats down by three points, 6-9, with 15:56 remaining.
- UMass Lowell went on an 8-5 run, helping them further their lead 17-11.
- Brown cut the River Hawks lead to three points with a layup and a free throw, but UMass Lowell responded with a jumper leaving the score 20-15.
- Daniels kicked off a 7-2 run helping the 'Cats to catch up with the River Hawks making the score 22-22.
- After trading a few baskets, UMass Lowell outscored UNH 10-3 in the final minutes of the half to close out the opening frame with a 37-30 lead.
- Allin Blunt led the River Hawks with ten points while Daniels also scored 10 points to lead the Wildcats.
SECOND HALF
- The teams went back and forth, missing the first five shots of the half until Daniels opened the scoring of the second half for the 'Cats.
- Graduate student Jaxson Baker (Phoenix, Ariz.) was able to trim the deficit to one point, 43-42, after knocking down two three-pointers with 14:36 remaining in the game.
- Brown started a 6-0 run for the 'Cats, putting them in the lead for the first time at 50-48 with just under ten minutes left to play.
- With 5:58 left, the 'Cats and River Hawks continue to trade buckets keeping the score neck and neck, 57-56 in favor of the Wildcats.
- Daniels made a layup with 2:18 remaining to put UNH back on top, 59-58, going into the final minutes.
- The Wildcats closed out the game by hitting all four of their free throw attempts to secure a 69-65 victory.
NOTEWORTHY
- UNH is now 14-7 all-time when facing UMass Lowell and has been victorious in three straight meetings. The Wildcats are now 7-5 when hosting the River Hawks in Lundholm Gym.
- Graduate student Matt Herasme (Chester, N.Y.) has now recorded a three-pointer in 19 of the 20 games he's played in this season.
- Daniels recorded his fourth consecutive double-double and 11th of the season by scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
- Junior Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) has now scored in double figures in 11 straight games, the longest active streak on the team.
- Brown tallied his first career double-double and a new career high with ten assists.
- Baker notched all 14 of his points in the second half and recorded a season-high five rebounds.
- Graduate student Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) is now three points shy of 1,000 career points.
- Allin Blunt led UMass Lowell with 17 points and seven rebounds while Abdoul Karim Coulibaly added 12 points and seven rebounds.
