
Wildcats Fall Short on Senior Day to Holy Cross

DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team fell in a dual-meet with Holy Cross Sunday afternoon at Paul Sweet Oval as the program celebrated nine graduating seniors.
The Wildcats finished the day with 68 points as a team while Holy Cross notched 109 points.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the dual-meet, nine student-athletes from the women's track and field team were honored as part of the senior day ceremony:

FIELD EVENTS
Graduate student Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) notched another first-place finish in the weight throw, reaching a mark of 61' 3".
Freshman Opal Shinnlinger (Canaan, N.H.) had the top mark in the shot put, throwing 40' 7" to win the event.
Sophomore Kaylen LaChapelle (Fremont, N.H.) was the top Wildcat in the high jump, finishing third with a height of 4' 9".
Freshman Makena Lee (Northwood, N.H.) led the 'Cats in the pole vault reaching a mark of 10' 6" to come in third place.
Sophomore Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.) competed in the triple jump, finishing with a distance of 36' 4.25", tallying a second-place finish.
RUNNING EVENTS
UNH had a pair of runners finish in the top-3 in the mile run with graduate students Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) placing second (5:01.64) and Annemarie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) finishing third (5:16.74).
Freshmen Liliana Chirichella (Troy, N.H.) and Elizabeth Breiby (Burlington, Mass.) took second and third in the 400m race, with Chirichella finishing at 1:01.88 and Breiby clocking in at 1:07.12.
In the 500m run, junior Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) notched a first-place finish with a time of 1:14.95.
Senior Meline Almasiana (Westford, Mass.) came in third place for the 'Cats in the 55m dash, completing the race in 7.63 seconds.
The 'Cats swept the podium in the 1000m run with junior Emma York (Penacook, N.H.), sophomore Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), and freshman Ava Graham finishing with times of 3:02.39, 3:03.52, and 3:04.86.
Sophomore Gwenyth Dahlinger (Pelham, N.H.) competed in the 200m dash with a time 28.61 seconds to finish second overall.
Senior Violet Sullivan (Brentwood, N.H.) ran to a second-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 11:34.91.
BC EAGLE ELITE INVITATIONAL (1/20/23)
The Wildcats had three runners compete at The TRACK at New Balance on Friday, Jan. 20 in the 1-mile race. Elizabeth Martell (4:48.29) finished fourth to lead the 'Cats out of 13 runners total. Boston College hosted the event, which was attended by Army-West Point, Northeastern, UConn, Harvard, and Assumption.
