RICHMOND, British Columbia – Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario), a freshman on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was recently named to the Field Hockey Canada Junior Women's National Team.
Poulakis was an impact player on the UNH field hockey team as a freshman this past fall, when she was named to both the 2022 America East All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team.
The midfielder started all 20 games with 12 goals and eight assists for a total of 32 points to rank second on the team in all three stats. With those numbers, Poulakis ranked No. 25 in the nation in points per game (1.60) and No. 29 in goals per game (0.60), as well as fourth in America East in both those stats.
Poulakis tallied a point in 14 games and that included a team-best eight-game point streak that spanned Sept. 30 to Oct. 28 with nine goals and five assists for 23 points in that stretch. Poulakis also began her career with a point in four consecutive games. She tallied career highs of three goals and six points vs. Cal.
Poulakis was named both Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Oct. 11.
The Canada Junior Women's National Team will travel to Barbados in April for the 2023 Junior Pan American Championship. This 18-athlete roster was selected from an extended group that traveled to Mexico earlier this month for a test series and training tour. The nine-day tour featured eight practices and five games against local clubs and the Mexican national team.
New Hampshire finished the 2022 season with 10 wins and a trip to the America East semifinals.
