AMHERST, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) made a season-high 13 saves but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was edged 4-3 in overtime by 25th-ranked UMass at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex on Sunday.
Woods, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, made three saves in the extra session and seven in the third quarter.
UNH's goals were scored by freshman Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England), the reigning America East Player and Rookie of the Week, senior captain Jaiden Wittel (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and freshman Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario).
UMass goalie Myrte Van Herwijnen was credited with two saves. Gabrielle Benkenstei scored 3:45 into overtime and also set up Claire Danahy's game-tying goal at 54:46 that sent the game into OT.
Both UNH and UMass now have a 3-1 record.

COACH'S QUIP (UNH head coach Robin Balducci)
We had a very good fourth quarter. I'm very pleased we were able to come back and to go ahead. We came out flat at the start of the game and the third quarter. UMass is too good of a team to do that. The lesson learned is what we can do with our ability to come back and score some goals. We made some adjustments in the fourth quarter because we needed to score some goals and we did.
