'Cats shine bright on opening day of Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team began competition on the opening day of the 56th annual Colonial Relays at Walter J. Zable Stadium at Cary Field on Friday.
Freshman jumper Olivia Chamberlain (Warnerville, N.Y.) earned a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 18'3.75, while sophomore Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) posted a 10th place mark with 17'4.25 in the long jump as well and she also posted a time of 13.16 in the 100 meter dash.
Senior Jordan Hoffman (North Chelmsford, Mass.) notched a mark of 11'1.75 in the pole vault, which was tied for a sixth-place finish for the Wildcats.
Freshman Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) added an eighth-place mark in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:35.74.
The Wildcats had a pair of entries in the 5000-meter race with freshman Addison Cox (Northwood, N.H.) and senior Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.). Nolan notched a solid seventh place finish at 17:01.32, while Dean placed 13th in the race at 17:19.61.
Senior Caroline Mahoney (Bedford, N.H.) registered a time of 36:45.31 in the 10,000 meter run for a seventh place mark to finish off the days events for UNH.
The Wildcats return to action in the final day on the Colonial Relays on Saturday, April 2 and the team will also host its first outdoor home meet of the season on Saturday from the Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility in Durham. Meet time is 11 a.m. and will be streamed live on AmericaEast.tv.
