DURHAM, N.H. -- Senior Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) of the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team has qualified for the NCAA Championships for a third straight year.
Metzler is one of 26 mid-major swimmers that has qualified for the NCAA Championships. She is just one of three swimmers from the Northeast region to qualify for the NCAA Championships (Harvard, Yale).
"We are excited and proud to be back again at the NCAAs this season representing UNH and our program," said 16-time America East and four-time ECAC Coach of the Year Josh Willman. "Anna has the potential to make finals in her premier event the 400 IM. We're also looking forward to the competition and having the opportunity to see some Olympians from this past summer in Tokyo."
She will open racing on Thursday, March 17 in the 200 IM, which she qualified for the "B" cut with her time of 1:58.32 at the Bruno Invitational earlier this season, which was a new school record.
On Friday, March 18, Metzler will swim in her signature event, the 400 IM, where she ranks 21 out of 38 student-athletes that have qualified with a time of 4:08.21. Metzler is trying to beat her personal best in the event with a time of 4:07.20, which she recorded at the ECAC Championships in 2020.
She will also compete in her final event of the weekend on Saturday, March 19 in the 200 back, as she qualified for the "B" cut at the America East Championships at WPI with a time of 1:56.41, which was a new school record. Metzler helped the Wildcats to their third straight America East Championship last month, which was their league-record 10th championship in school history for the Wildcats.
It's the 12th time in the history of the Wildcats' swimming program that the team has had a student-athlete qualify for the NCAA Championships.
