'Cats round out final day of competition at NE Championships with fifth place finish

ROXBURY, Mass. -- The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team finished in fifth place at the New England Championships in the final day of competion at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.Â
Junior sprinter Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) fininshed with a mark of 7.96 in the 60 meter dash for the Wildcats, which was good for a sixth place finish on the day, while junior thrower Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) placed third in the shot put (42'6.25) continuing her very impressive and consistent season.Â
The 'Cats 4x800 replay team comprised of the all freshman group of Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.), Emma York (Penacook, N.H.), Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine) once again impressed with a second-place finish at 9:22.31.
"The women were also fifth, and today Sarah Williams came back with her terrific season with her versatility and excellence in leading this team and finished third in the shot put today," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "Mel Almasian ran very well in the 60 dash and we continued with our excellent running replays with second place in the 4x800 with four runners with freshman eligibility. The 4x400 also ran well with a fourth place finish and the fastest we have all season. I really feel like we are coming together as a team and progressing as we get ready for the championship part of season."
UNH's 4x400 replay team place fifth with a mark of 3:59.42 in a grouping of Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.), Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.), Zakiya Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Almasian.Â
