Wildcats Lead After Day 1 of America East Championships

UNH has won one silver and three bronze medals.
RESULTS
BOSTON – The Wildcats have won one silver and three bronze medals as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team is currently in first place with 44 points after Day 1 of the America East Championships at Boston University.

Senior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) broke her own school record and sophomore Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) tied a school record.

The Distance Medley Relay team of sophomore Emma York (Penacook N.H.), sophomore Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.), freshman Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) won silver with a time of 12:04.82. Â

Williams earned her first career America East medal with a bronze as she broke her own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 61' 7.50". This is the third time this season she has broke the record.

Martell tied the school record in the 500 meters at 1:14.17 as she qualified for tomorrow's finals. Danielle Gajewski set the school record also with a time of 1:14.17 in 2016. Â

Senior Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) took the bronze in the 5,000 meters with a career-best time of 17:17.08. This is her second career America East medal as she won a silver as a member of the indoor DMR in 2020. Senior Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) placed sixth with a career-best time of 17:27.10.

Freshman Olivia Chamberlain (Warnerville, N.Y.) won the bronze in the long jump with a distance of 18' 5.75", while junior Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) placed fourth at a personal best distance of 18' 3.25".

Graduate student Jordan Hoffman (North Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Danielle Heine (Waverly, Pa.) tied for fourth in the pole vault as they cleared the bar at 11' 5.75", earning the Wildcats a total of nine points. The distance was a personal best for Hoffman.

Senior Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) placed eighth in the Pentathlon with 2,990 points.

The Wildcats will return for the final day of the America East Championships on Saturday, Feb. 26.
