Quintet Named Captains of 2021 Outdoor Team; Season Starts April 3

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire women's track & field head coach Casey Carroll has announced the quintet of Cayla Barretto (Woburn, Mass.), Meg Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.), Chloe Holowachuk (Smithfield, R.I.) and Bosibori Mosongo (Indianapolis, Ind.) will captain the Wildcats' 2021 outdoor squad.
Barretto, a senior who has been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll multiple times, is also a member of the cross country team and runs distance events for the outdoor track & field team. Her collegiate accolades include 2019 America East All-Conference Second Team in cross country and she was part of UNH's 2018 America East indoor champion distance medley relay team and the winning 2019 New England 4x800-meter relay.
Champagne is a grad student who has also been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll multiple times, lettered on the cross country team and competes in long distance events on the track. Champagne was the 3000-meter champion at the 2020 America East indoor meet and 5000m champion at the 2020 ECAC meet. She also earned a spot on the 2019 America East All-Conference First Team in cross country.
Colbert is a grad student who competes in the throw events. She has been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll the past two years. Colbert capped the 2019 outdoor season with a second-place finish in the discus at the New England championship meet.
Holowachuk is a grad student and sprinter. She has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll each of the past two seasons.
Mosongo, another grad student, is a heptathlete. She was named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2020 and made the conference Academic Honor Roll in '19, her first year as a UNH Wildcat. Mosongo ended the 2019 outdoor season with a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon at New Englands.
The UNH women's track & field team returns to action April 3 for its home opener at Reggie F. Atkins Track and Field Facility against five schools, including America East conference foes University of Maine and University of Vermont; Southern New Hampshire University and the University of Southern Maine will also be competing.
