DURHAM, N.H - The University of New Hampshire men's cross country team opened its season placing third against UMass Lowell and Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon in a race hosted on the UNH campus.
New Hampshire sophomore Aidan O'Hearn (Concord, N.H.) finished first among Wildcat runners and 16th overall with a time of 24:16.26, while junior Andrew LePage (Morrisonville, N.Y.) was the next best finisher for UNH at 24:32.71 good for 12th place.
UNH's next three runners finished between 15-17 with sophomore Dillon Adamy (Clinton, N.J.: 24:59.88), sophomore Kenny McElroy (West Linn, Ore.; 25:15.20) and freshman Trevor DeMarco (Ridgefield, Conn.; 25:16.53) leading the way.
The 7500 meter race, which ran very fast on the day, was run around the UNH athletic fields and on the streets of Durham, as opposed to its traditional race through College Woods.
The young team battled hard and now have a measuring stick as they move forward in the quick winter season.
UMass Lowell finished first in the race with 15 points, followed by Rhode Island with 52 points and UNH with 73 points.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, February 13 in a race against Vermont and Binghamton, which begins at 1:45 p.m. on the UNH campus.
