UNH posts wins in women’s 7K skate, men’s 10K skate at Jackson XC
JACKSON, N.H. – Freshman UNH Nordic skiers Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) and Seth Wyatt(Bozeman, Mont.) each posted a victory Thursday in their college debuts, and the Wildcats won the women's 7K skate and the men's 10K skate to take a 276-240 lead against St. Lawrence on the opening day of the EISA Nordic Carnival at Jackson XC.
Due to Friday's forecast, the teams are now scheduled to compete in the women's 10K skate (11 a.m.) and men's 10K skate (12 p.m.) to complete the first Nordic carnival of the 2021 EISA season.
Lyons earned 50 points by virtue of her winning time of 23 minutes, 5.2 seconds. Lea Stabæk Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) registered 44 points and finished fourth (23:56.2), whileAnna Schriefer(Pittsford, N.Y.) picked up 41 points courtesy of her fifth-place time of 24.14.0. The UNH women edged SLU, 135-123.
Though she did not collect EISA points, Georgianna Fischer (Bozeman, Mont.) placed third overall (23:38.9).
Seth Wyatt captured first place in his first Nordic race as a Wildcat
In the men's 10K skate, a dominant Wildcats performance included the race's top-five placers and a convincing 141-117 victory against SLU. Following Wyatt, who crossed the line in 30 minutes, 42.3 seconds,James Schneider(Plymouth, Minn.) was the top EISA-point finisher (50 points) with a runner-up time of 31:06.1. He was followed by Andrew Meyer (Bozeman, Mont. / 31:51.6, 47 points) and Kieran Hahn(Steamboat Springs, Colo. / 32:18.0, 44 points).
