Ski Team Announces 2021 Awards and Honors

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.), freshman Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario), sophomore Marius Solbakken (Bekkestua, Norway) and senior Rachel Nawrocki (New Castle, N.H.) were named team MVPs to highlight the 2021 University of New Hampshire ski program's team awards announced by 39th-year Nordic head coach Cory Schwartz and 14th-year alpine head coach Brian Blank.
Schulz and Lyons each ranked No. 1 overall in the EISA Nordic ski rankings to win the East's overall points bib; they both earned a spot on the All-East First Team and later competed for the Wildcats at the NCAA Ski Championships, hosted by UNH at Jackson XC. Lyons additionally was tabbed the EISA Female Rookie of the Year.
Solbakken was the lone Wildcat alpine skier to claim All-East First Team distinction; he parlayed a No. 4 EISA ranking in giant slalom and No. 8 ranking in slalom for an overall No. 7 ranking. Nawrocki paced all UNH women's alpine competitors in points (105) to place on the All-East Second Team; she was ranked fourth in SL and ninth in GS for EISA's No. 7 ranking.

•The Wildcats recognized junior Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) for winning the Elite 90 Award as the NCAA Championship competitor with the highest cumulative GPA (4.00, business administration). READ MORE.
•Twenty-four National All-Academic Ski Team representatives were recognized for their academic excellence. READ MORE.
•Senior Will Bruneau-Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec) was feted for his NCAA Championship All-American Second Team performance in slalom (eighth place) at Mittersill-Cannon. READ MORE.
•Bruneau-Bouchard and senior Corey McConville (London, Ontario) each plan to return to the team in 2022 due to the extra year of eligibility afforded student-athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
•The graduating seniors were saluted for their years of commitment to the program, including Ale Legate (Anchorage, Alaska), Nawrocki, Heidi Roussin (Salaberry-De-Valleyfield, Quebec), Patrick Kenney (Hingham, Mass.), Logan Slattery (Franconia, N.H.), Kaja Sandsten (Oppdal, Norway) and Jakob Velle (Oslo, Norway).
•The UNH ski team placed ninth at the 2021 NCAA Championships, which marked the 27th Top-10 national finish in the Cory Schwartz Era.
