Nordic team takes second place at Vermont Carnival
HUNTINGTON, Vt. & WILMINGTON, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire men's alpine ski team won both giant slalom races at Whiteface Mountain in the Saint Lawrence Carnival while the men's and women's Nordic teams registered second-place finishes in the 10K classic races at Sleepy Hollow in the Nordic Vermont Carnival to highlight Friday's EISA competition.
The Nordic teams scored 247 points to move into second place behind Vermont (271 points). Those points will be combined with the alpine points from the Boston College Alpine Carnival at Proctor Ski Area on Feb. 27-28.

In the opening GS at Whiteface, junior Crowley Gentile (Greenland, N.H.) posted a combined time of 1 minute, 55.37 seconds to edge Boston College's Zachary Simmons by 0.08 for the win and 50 points. Wildcat sophomore Marius Solbakken (Bekkestua, Norway) clocked in at 1:55.78 for third place (44 points), and senior Will Bruneau-Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec) picked up 35 points by virtue of his seventh-place time of 1:56.23. UNH edged UVM, 129-117.
Solbakken (2:04.61, 47 points) and Gentile (2:05.34, 44 points) finished 2-3 in the second GS, while Bruneau-Bouchard took fifth (2:05.93, 39 points) as the Wildcats totaled 130 points to best the second-place Catamounts (112).

In Thursday's women's alpine action, senior Rachel Nawrocki (New Castle, N.H.) finished fifth (2:05.55, 45 points), sophomore McKenna Wilson (Bristol, N.H.) took sixth (2:06.13, 35 points) and sophomore Emma Kearing (Carrabassett Valley, Maine) placed 10th (2:06.70, 30 points) in the first GS. Kearing (2:03.90, fifth place, 39 points) led the way in the second GS, followed by sophomore Brianna Macdonald (Toronto, Ontario / 2:04.56, sixth place, 37 points). The Wildcat women scored 180 points in the combined alpine races.

At Sleepy Hollow on Friday, freshman Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) took second place in the women's 10K classic to notch 47 points (28 minutes, 17.6 seconds). Sophomore Lucinda Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) finished fourth (41 points, 28:58.9), and freshman Georgianna Fischer(Bozeman, Mont.) placed seventh (37 points, 29:24.5). The Wildcats scored 125 to finish second to UVM (133).
The men's Nordic 'Cats compiled 122 points in the team 10K classic to place second to the Catamounts (138). Sophomore Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) led the charge with a second-place time of 24:40.5 for 44 points. Freshman James Schneider (Plymouth, Minn.) and sophomore Everett Olson (Snowmass Village, Colo.) tied for fifth place (25:42.5, 45 points).
