DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team will be adding three championship-caliber runners to its roster in the coming 2020 campaign and 2020-21 track and field seasons.
The New Hampshire women's cross country team just won its league-leading seventh America East Championship, its third in four seasons, and looks to continue the trend of championship caliber runners with these three new additions.
""We're excited to have these three talented young athletes join the UNH cross country and track program," says head coach Robert Hoppler. "We feel that they'll fit into the tradition of success within the cross country and track programs."
Two local granite-staters, Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) and Silvia Caddell (Salem, N.H.) shined in the NHIAA DI and DII championships this past summer, while the third newest signee comes from the Green Mountain State, Elizabeth Martell (Essex, Vt.).
Doody, who ran for Oyster River High School, was a New England qualifier in cross country this past fall, and was a member of the state champion 4x400m relay team at the NHIAA DII Championship. Doody is also a scorer in the outdoor 400m, 800, and the indoor 600m, 1500m, 3000m, and 4x400m relay.
Caddell joins the Wildcats from the Salem Blue Devils; in her high school career she took runner-up honors in the outdoor 800m at the state championship meet, and was a part of Salem's 4x400m relay team that finished second in the all-division state championship meet, the 'Meet of Champions'.
Martell is a Vermont state championship in high school track for Essex High School, winning the 400m and 800m races in the same championship meet; she's also an indoor state champion in the 600m, and runner up in the indoor 300m.
"All three have displayed the ability to have range in their running, in that they can run fast on the track as well as be successful cross country athletes," says Hoppler.
