LANCASTER, Pa. – Kellie Joyce, who had a highly decorated playing career on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was named to the 2020 U.S. Women's National Development Team earlier this week.
Joyce is one of 23 athletes selected following her performance at the USWNT trial from Jan. 6-8 at Spooky Nook Sports. She was also selected to the inaugural U.S. Women's National Development Team in January 2017.
This year's team is scheduled for two training camps before touring Scotland in its first international competition April 16-22.
Joyce, who helped UNH advance to a pair of NCAA tournaments, was named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America Third Team as a senior in 2014. She was also selected to the NFHCA All-Northeast Region First Team and America East All-Conference First Team as a senior, when she started all 21 games with two goals and six assists for 10 points. With those stats, the captain ranked first on the team in assists.
Joyce helped lead New Hampshire to three consecutive America East regular-season titles (2011-12-13) and two conference tournament titles (2011, 2013). In her four years, the Wildcats had a 53-32 overall record (.624 winning percentage) that included an 18-2 mark in conference play.
While at UNH, Joyce was a USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship participant in 2012 and 2013; she had previously competed at the USA Junior National Championship in 2011.
Joyce's playing career also extended overseas, where she was a member of the Royal Pungouin Hockey Club (Nivelles, Belgium) elite team from August 2016 through April 2017.
She then returned to Durham as an assistant coach for the 2017 season and has held that same position at Providence College the past two seasons.
Joyce emerged as an offensive weapon for the Wildcats in 2012, when she became one of the primary stick-stops on penalty corners. Joyce recorded seven assists in both '12 and '13, and that number ranked second on the team both years.
Joyce started all 85 games in her four years as a Wildcat (2011-14) and compiled 11 goals and 23 assists for 45 points. The 23 assists are tied for No. 7 on the program's all-time leaderboard.
Her other collegiate accolades include All-Conference Second Team (2012, 2013), America East All-Rookie Team, America East Academic Honor Roll ('11, '12, '13) and NFHCA All-Academic Squad.
