Women’s Soccer Upended by Binghamton, 2-0

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team recorded the edge in both shots and corner kicks, but it was Binghamton University that emerged as a 2-0 victor Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
UNH is now 5-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in America East. The Bearcats improved to 8-2-1, 2-0-0.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats return to action Oct. 6 (1 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. UNH's next home game is Oct. 13 (2 p.m.) against the University at Albany.

HOW IT HAPPENED
· The teams played to a scoreless first half with no shots on goal.
· Kaylan Williams (Marion, Ind.) generated a dangerous scoring chance 90 seconds into the second half, but her shot from 18 yards was stopped easily by Binghamton goalie Haylee Poltorak.
· Both teams generated a scoring opportunity in the 59th minute. Williams was once again denied by Poltorak, this time on a shot from the top-left of the penalty area. At the other end of the field, Dora Hayes' bid from deep on the right wing was snared by UNH goalie Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) at the near post.
· One minute later, Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) was sprung behind the defense on a through-ball. Her shot from 15 yards on the left side sailed wide of the far post.
· Sarah Dibble, who entered the game in the 66th minute, broke the scoreless tie at 67:59. Hayes slipped a pass from 25 yards through the middle to Dibble, who made one touch before blasting a shot into the middle of the net from 18 yards.
· The Bearcats extended their lead to 2-0 at 81:20. Dibble's initial shot 10 yards out from the left post hit the post, but Maya Anand controlled the rebound at the doorstep and directed the ball into the net.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· Sheppard was credited with two saves, both in the second half.
· Poltorak earned the shutout with four saves, all in the second half.
· UNH finished with an 11-8 shot advantage, but the shots on goal were even at 4.
· The Wildcats recorded the only corner kick of the game in the first half.
· Lane and Williams tied with a game-high four shots. Two of Williams' attempts were on goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
· UNH entered the game on a two-game win streak.
· Sheppard's shutout streak ended at 250 minutes, 50 seconds. She had not surrendered a goal since the 88th minute at Dartmouth College on Sept. 12.
