Javelin Throwers Lead ‘Cats in Day 1 at America East Outdoors

Four scorers in the javelin lead eight scorers for UNH on the first day of championship weekend.
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire women's track & field team competed at the America East Championships hosted by the University at Albany, with day one taking place Saturday, May 4. The Wildcats had eight athletes score on Saturday, leaving the team in second overall in team score after six events were scored.
In the javelin throw, four Wildcats had scoring marks, led by junior Natalie Howes (Londonderry, N.H.) who took runner up in the event with a new personal best distance of 134 feet, 1 inch. It shattered her old career best by just over five feet (128'9"). Finishing in the fourth place spot was sophomore Lauren Quann (Pictou, Nova Scotia) with a distance of 126'2". Junior Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) took fifth with 125'1", and sophomore Alexandra Toback (Pomtpon Plains, N.J.) rounded out the group in sixth, setting a new personal best at 125'.
Elsewhere in the throws, junior Colbert also scored in the hammer throw; her throw of 151'7", which was a new career best.
A pair of runners scored in the last women's event of the day, the 10,000 meter run: sophomore Caroline Mahoney (Bedford, N.H.) and fifth-year senior Riley Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) took fourth and fifth, respectively. Mahoney took fourth in 36 minutes, 36.66 seconds¸ and Gilmore took fifth at 36:46.77.
Freshman jumper Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) took fifth in the long jump, scoring with a new personal best distance of 18'6". In the pole vault, senior Sabrina Anderson (Hopewell, N.J.) and sophomore Jordan Hoffman (North Chelmsford, Mass.) both scored with a vault of 10'2". Anderson finished in a three-way tie for the fourth place spot with no faults; Hoffman took eighth.
