Champagne, Murdock Lead UNH at Larry Ellis Invitational

Six Wildcats traveled to Princeton for the competitive invitational.
PRINCETON, N.J. – Six University of New Hampshire women's track and field athletes made the trip to New Jersey for the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University on Saturday, April 20. The two-day meet was shortened to one with the weather, and delaying the start of several track meets until later afternoon and into the evening.
The top finishers for UNH in the meet were junior Meg Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and senior Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.), each finishing ninth in their respective events. Champagne took ninth in the 5000 meter run, with a finishing time of 17 minutes, 8.54 seconds, while Murdock competed in the 1500 meter run, taking ninth in 4:22.84.
The Wildcats also had one competitor in the women's 800m Elite race; fifth-year Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) took third place in her heat and 15th overall with a time of 2:09.70.
Joining Champagne in the 5000m were sophomore Caroline Mahoney (Bedford, N.H.), who finished 18th, setting a new personal best time of 17.27.41, beating her old PB by almost half a minute. Finishing in 26th was fifth-year Riley Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) in 17:36.57.
Murdock was joined in the 1500m by sophomore Cayla Barretto (Woburn, Mass.), who finished 30th in 4:35.73, setting a new personal best in the event.

A busy week is on deck for New Hampshire, traveling to the Penn Relays from Thursday, April 25 to Saturday the 27th. New Hampshire hosts the America East pre-conference meet Saturday, April 27 at the Reggie Atkins Track & Field Facility beginning at 11 A.M., one week ahead of the America East Championship meet hosted by Albany, May 4 and 5.
