Sophomore Anna Meztler Swept the 200 and 400 IM at the Terrier Invitational
BOSTON – Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany), a sophomore on the University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team, was named the America East Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday for her performances at the Terrier Invitational on Nov. 22-24.
Metzler has received this accolade three times this season – she was also honored Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 – and five times in her career.
Metzler swept first place the 200- and 400-yard individual medley races with a NCAA B cut provisional time in both events. Last Friday in the 200 IM, her first-place time of 1 minute, 58.98 seconds was just .20-of-a-second behind the school record established in 2014 by Katie Mann. And then on Saturday, Metzler bested the competition with a time of 4:11.93.
On the third – and final – day of competition, Metzler raced to second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.68. She went on to win the B final of the breaststroke in 2:18.51, which was the third-fastest time in the three final heats. She capped the night and weekend by swimming the second leg of UNH's fifth-place 400 freestyle relay team.
New Hampshire returns to action Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at Stony Brook University. The Wildcats' next home meet is the Friday, Jan. 24 regular-season finale against Maine.
