UNH looks to gain momentum as conference championship approaches.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's cross country team travels to St. Albans, Vermont this Saturday, October 19 for a 1 P.M. five-team meet hosted by the University of Vermont.
The 'Fall Foliage Invitational' will feature five teams and several more open athletes, and will provide the Wildcats with an opportunity to face off against some top regional teams.
MEET INFO:
Date: October 19, 2019
Start Time: 1:45 P.M. – Men's 8k
Location: Hard'Ack Rec Area - St. Albans, Vt.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats sent a squad of mostly underclassmen ahead of the team's championship season to finalize their conference championship roster, and got several freshman runners the championship experience they'll need to make that roster.
Freshman William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was the top finisher for the Wildcats, finishing the 8k in 25:46.9, just four seconds off his personal best. Freshman Kenny McElroy (West Linn, Ore.) was the second Wildcat to cross the finish line at 26:08.9¸ finishing 59th.
New Hampshire finished 12th out of 25 in the team score with 315 points. The overall race was won by Ezra Mutai of American International; Providence College took the New England championship with a team score of 42.
UP NEXT:
New Hampshire has one weekend left before the America East Championship meet; they travel to New Britain, Connecticut for the CCSU Mini Meet next Friday, October 25, ahead of the conference championships in Albany on Saturday, November 2.
FROM THE COACH:
"To win you first have to be beat up a bit and challenged. I feel we achieved that at the brown meet at Lehigh, even though we went to the front and lead. The Vermont meet, it's five teams with some opener runners, it's on a good course. We're gonna race everybody whose healthy, we've still got a lot of guys coming down with coughs and colds right now; If we can get them healthy for conference, that's our goal, and to keep doing what we're doing and keep getting better."
