New Hampshire is led by 20th-year head coach Sean McDonnell, who has guided the Wildcats to the NCAA FCS tournament each of the last 14 years (longest active streak in the nation).
UNH is 0-1 and has not started a season with back-to-back losses since 2002. Colgate is 1-0 following last week's 24-17 home win vs. Holy Cross.
New Hampshire has a 10-2 record at Wildcat Stadium and that includes a perfect 6-0 last year. Dating back to the 2016 season, UNH has won seven consecutive home games.
In the past decade (2008-17), UNH has a 52-7 home record (.881 win percentage) that includes 17-2 vs. non-conference teams (.895 win percentage).
During the Wildcats' 14-year playoff run, they are 69-13 at home (.841 win percentage) with a 22-3 mark against teams outside the CAA (.880 win percentage).
The last time New Hampshire lost a regular-season home game to a non-conference team was Nov. 11, 2000, when Gardner-Webb was a 38-35 victor.
UNH has won 13 consecutive home openers (2005-17). The most recent Wildcats' loss in a home opener was to William & Mary, 9-7, on Sept. 18, 2004 In the coach Mac era, New Hampshire has a 16-3 record in home openers.
New Hampshire has a 6-2 lifetime record against Colgate University that includes 3-2 at home and 3-1 in the 20-year tenure of UNH head coach Sean McDonnell.
UNH has recorded seven or more wins 14 consecutive years; the stretch began in 2004 (10-3) and includes six double-digit win seasons with a program-record 12 in 2014.
The Wildcats return 18 starters – nine on offense and nine on defense – from last year's team that finished 9-5 overall and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
Senior quarterback Trevor Knight was named the CAA Football Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He was joined on the Preseason All-Conference Team by senior wide receiver Neil O'Connor and junior linebacker Quinlen Dean.
