Washington's 93-yd Dash, Horn TD Highlight 3rd Straight Win

DURHAM, N.H. – Redshirt freshman Carlos Washington, Jr. (Fort Washington, Md.) scored on a 93-yard touchdown run and sophomore safety Evan Horn (Lebanon, Pa.) scored again for the defense to power the University of New Hampshire football team to a 24-10 win over the University at Albany on Saturday afternoon in Wildcat Stadium.
The Wildcats won their third straight game in windy conditions and sent their seniors out triumphantly in their last game at home on UNH Salutes/Military Appreciation Day.
UNH improved to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Albany fell to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in the league.
"Pretty good game for us, especially with the elements, the way the wind and everything was," said head coach Sean McDonnell. "I thought we played very well at times on both sides of the football. Obviously on defense we did the first thing we needed to do to win the football game, we stopped the run, and our guys did a great job tackling."
The Wildcats close out the season with a game at Rhode Island next Saturday at noon.
Offense and defense teamed up well again for the Wildcats and they controlled the lines of scrimmage.
UNH rolled up 234 of rushing yards, topping the 200-yard mark for the second time in the last three games.
"It's hard in these conditions," McDonnell said. "Even when you're with the wind. Everybody says, 'OK, you've got the wind, you can do some things.' The ball takes off with the wind as well. We needed to run the football today and we ran it pretty well. I thought our offensive line played well."
Washington's TD run was UNH's longest from scrimmage in 22 years. Jerry Azumah had a 96-yard run in a 21-13 win over Connecticut on Sept. 21, 1996.
Helped by a season-high seven quarterback sacks, the defense held Albany to 13 yards rushing. It was the second time in three games the defense held an opponent to 13 yards rushing.
Junior linebacker Quinlen Dean (Greenbelt, Md.) led the way with a career-high three sacks.
Horn scored last week on a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown. The defense scored a pair of touchdowns last week, has scored four TDs in the last four games and five for the year.
