Shanahan, Throwers Shine in Terrier Invitational

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed in events in the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday, and senior thrower Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) took first place in the weight throw.
Shanahan missed his personal best by a foot, but still took first place with a 71 foot, eight inch throw, a full 10 feet further than the second-place thrower. Shanahan, who has already broken the school record in the weight throw three times this season, and his latest record break is still ranked for fifth in the nation.
In the shot put, Nicholas Ritzo (Rye, N.H.) and Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) finished third and fourth in the shot put. Ritzo, who finished third, threw 52 feet, 3.25 inches, just under one foot shy of his career-best, which he threw against Holy Cross (53'2.5"). Astle took fourth with a best throw of 51'6.25". His personal best came in the outdoor track championships last season (51'3").

The New England Indoor Championship takes place next weekend, Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3, hosted by Northeastern University.

- In the 5000m run, Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) took 12th with a time of 14:38.16.
- Joel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.) took 10th in the 60m hurdles in 8.58 seconds.
- Nkounkou also took 11th in the long jump, with a jump of 22 feet, 0.75 inches.
- Jon Chapman (Newport, R.I.) took sixth in the weight throw with 53 feet, 5.75 inches.
