Wildcats Emerge Victorious In Home Meet

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire track and field teams split their squads between the Terrier Invitational in Boston and a home quad-meet with Dartmouth, Maine, and Vermont. Both teams took first in the team score on Saturday, with the women's team earning 220 points in the win, and the men's team earned 188 points to claim first.
On the men's side, the Wildcats took several key field events, including the long jump, which was a one-two top finish for UNH. Christopher Gansfuss (Flemington, N.J.) took first with a 20-foot, 2.5-inch jump, followed by Ryan Dutille jumping 19'11.75".
In the triple jump, Jordan Buckmire took first with a 43-foot, nine-inch jump, just under a foot short of his personal best he set in December of 44'5".
UNH also won the weight throw, with Edward Speidel (Dover, N.H.) taking first with his longest throw of 55 feet. Cullen Aubin (Warwick, R.I.) took second with a throw of 51'0.5".
On the track, Christian Ehlers (Kingston, N.H.) took first in the 500m run with a time of 1:10.02, and the Wildcats also swept the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. The team of James O'Brien, Ehlers, Joseph Hook (Rockaway, N.J.), and Fredrick Schaake took first in the 4x400m in 3:33.74. In the 4x800m, the team of James Busi (Plastow, N.H.), Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.), Cody Symonds (Alton, N.H.) and Nicholas Brown (Conway, N.H.) took first in 8:21.67.

The New England Indoor Championship takes place next weekend, Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3, hosted by Northeastern University.

- Hook, who also had two top-3 finishes that helped the Wildcats' point total. In the 55m dash, he finished in 6.95 seconds, just .04 seconds off the second place runner. In the 200m dash, he finished third in 24.55 seconds.
- In the 800m run, Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.) finished second in 1:59.48, just .10 seconds behind the lead runner, and Busi finished third in 2:02.7.
- In the mile run, Nicolas Ochoa-Sevilla (Chester, N.H.) took second with in four minutes, 27.28 seconds.
- Ryan Spelman (Franklin, Mass.) took third in the 3000m run with a time of 8:58.7.
- In the high jump, Schaake took second with a five-foot, 10.5 inch jump.
