Leissner Records 16 Points, 15 Rebounds in 62-58 Loss at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 62-58 by College of the Holy Cross in Saturday afternoon's non-conference game at Hart Center.
Leissner, who played all 40 minutes, led the Wildcats in both scoring and rebounding for his third double-double of the season and 16th of his career; the 15 rebounds matched his career high.
Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) equaled his season high of 16 points; he made 6 of 15 field goals, including 4-for-12 from 3-point range, in 24 minutes off the bench. Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) finished with nine points, 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Holy Cross was led by Austin Butler (16 points), Caleb Green (12) and Karl Charles (10, five assists). Jehyve Floyd contributed nine points and nine boards.
UNH is now 2-8 overall with three losses by less than five points. Holy Cross is 3-6.

THE DIFFERENCE
- Holy Cross was just 7 of 14 from the foul line in the game but went 3-for-4 in the last 20 seconds of the game to secure the win.
- HC closed the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 27-22 lead into halftime and UNH never pulled even in the second half.
- The Crusaders shot 40.7 percent from the floor in comparison to UNH's 32.8 percent. HC also shot 40.7% from 3-point range (11-27), whereas the Wildcats were 9 of 33 (27.3%) from beyond the arc.
GAME RECAP
- UNH led 7-4 four minutes into the game, then trailed 13-9 before Leissner's 3-pointer made it a one-point game at 9:50 of the first half.
- Darryl Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.) scored five consecutive points on a jumper and 3-pointer to put the Wildcats back in front, 17-15, at 5:52 and Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) threw the ball through the rim to extend the advantage to four points.
- Holy Cross closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 27-22 lead into halftime. There were two ties and six lead changes in the first half.
- The Crusaders extended the lead to nine points, 37-28, at 13:04.
- Reed's barrage of three 3-pointers – at 9:41, 8:43 and 5:31 -- lifted UNH within three points, 44-41.
- The home team responded with a 9-3 run on three 3-pointers to push the lead to eight points, 53-45, at 3:32.
- Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) answered with a 3-pointer at the other end of the court to trim the deficit to five points.
- The teams exchanged layups to advance the score to 55-50 with 1:50 to play.
- Floyd converted a three-point play to push the lead to 58-50 at 1:19.
- Following a pair of UNH offensive rebounds, Leissner hit a pair of free throws to close the gap to 58-52 with 1:03 remaining.
- Holy Cross missed the front end of a 1-and-1, then Camara made down of two foul shots to pull the 'Cats within 58-53 with 45 seconds to play.
- Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) scored his first points of the game on a 3-pointer to lift UNH within two points, 58-56, 12 seconds later.
- The Crusaders went 1-for-2 at the foul line to increase the lead to three points, and Reed missed a potential game-tying 3-point shot with 19 seconds on the clock.
- Matt Zignorski made both shots from the charity stripe to extend the home team's lead to 61-56 with 17 seconds left.
- Jordan missed another 3-point attempt but Camara pulled down the rebound and Leissner scored to make it 61-58 with seven seconds to play.
- Zignorski went back to the foul line and hit 1 of 2 to seal the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- New Hampshire recorded a 49-30 rebounding edge, including 17-5 on the offensive glass to generate a 17-9 advantage in second-chance points.
- UNH committed 14 turnovers in comparison to Holy Cross' seven.
- Camara recorded six points and 11 rebounds in the first half.
- Reed scored all 16 of his points in the second half.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- With 16 points, Leissner climbed to No. 3 on UNH's career leaderboard with 1,573; he moved past Alvin Abreu (2008-12) at 1,564. Robin Dixon (1979-83) is No. 2 at 1,590.
- Leissner extended his program record for free throws to 423. He is the moved to second in free throws attempted (548).
- Leissner also climbed to No. 5 on UNH's career rebounding list with 736; he entered the game tied with Jim Rich (1961-64) at No. 6 with 721 and surpassed Dirk Koopman (1982-86; 726).
- This was Leissner's 100th career game.
