Purrier Named Regional Runner of the Year, Takes Aim at National Title in Louisville

Purrier won her second straight Northeast Regional meet and will compete for a national title on Saturday.
DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire senior Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Runner of the Year for the Northeast Region after her first place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet.
Purrier, who has now won the last two NCAA North East Regional Cross Country meets, has qualified for the NCAA Championship meet in Louisville, Ky. scheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 18. Purrier finished in seventh place in last years' championship meet in 19 minutes, 56.9 seconds, for which she received All-American honors, making her an All-American in all three sports she competes in: indoor track, outdoor track, and cross country.
Purrier was also named to the All-Region Team for her efforts in the regional meet last weekend in Amherst, N.Y. In every race she competed in this season, Purrier broke tape as the individual winner.
Earlier this year on October 14, at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Lousiville, Purrier finished first in the NCAA Pre-National meet. She finished with a time of 19:28.5.

- September 22, Battle In Beantown, Boston, Mass. – 5K
- Finished in 16 minutes, 48.6 seconds, 14 seconds faster than the second place runner.
- October 14, NCAA Pre-Nationals, Lousiville, Ky. – 6K
- Completed the course in 19 minutes, 28.5 seconds, just 1.2 seconds ahead of the defending National Champion, Karissa Schweizer.
- October 28, America East Championship, St. Anslem, Vt. – 3.1M
- Finished in 16 minutes, 45.9 seconds for her third individual America East Championship. Also named to the All-Conference first team, as the Wildcats won their fifth straight America East Cross Country title.
- November 10, NCAA Northeast Regional, Amherst, N.Y. – 6K
- Finished with a time of 21:20.8 for her second straight Regional win, earning All-Region honors and qualifying for her second straight NCAA Championship.
