Gymnastics Wins Home-Opening Tri-Meet with Pittsburgh and Southern Connecticut

DURHAM, N.H. – Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) tied for first place on the vault (9.825), earned second place on the floor exercise (9.875), and finished third on the balance beam (9.750) in the University of New Hampshire's gymnastics team's victory in Saturday's tri-meet with the University of Pittsburgh and Southern Connecticut State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Hampshire began on the vault, totaling a team score of 48.925. O'Leary and Pflieger led the team in the first event of the afternoon, finishing in a tie for first with scores of 9.825. The mark was a personal best for O'Leary, and a season high for Pflieger. Marissa Toci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) also tied a career-high score of 9.800 while tying for third place.
The Wildcats then moved to the bars, where they earned a team score of 48.700. Mulligan won the event, recording a score of 9.875. Jennifer King (Freehold, N.J.) also excelled, recording a 9.800 for second place. Courtney Bondanza (Buffalo, N.Y.), who finished in a tie for third place, tied a personal best with a score of 9.775.
On the balance beam, New Hampshire totaled a score of 48.675. Freehling won the event for the second straight week, earning a score of 9.825. Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) placed second with a 9.775, while Pflieger followed closely in third place with a 9.750. Lia Breeden (York, Pa.) finished fourth with a 9.675, and Ava Watkins (Cherry Hill, N.J.) placed fifth, recording a score of 9.650.
The 'Cats saved their best performances for last, totaling a team score of 49.075 on the floor exercise. Doolin won the event while tying a career high score of 9.900. Pflieger placed second with a 9.875, and Lexi Calandra (Suffern, N.Y.) tied a personal best of 9.800 for third place. Breeden and Brittany Capozzi (Derry, N.H.) tied for fourth with scores of 9.750.

- Nicole O'Leary (Newtown, Conn.) tied for first place on the vault, scoring a personal-best 9.825. Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) won on the uneven bars with a score of 9.875.

- UNH gymnasts secured victories in each of the four events. O'Leary won on the vault, Mulligan on bars, Freehling on beam and Doolin on the floor. On the beam, the 'Cats earned first through fifth places, with scores from 9.650 to 9.825.
- The Wildcats have now defeated 23 consecutive opponents at Lundholm Gym in an impressive streak that dates back to March 8, 2014. With the victory today, New Hampshire defeated defending EAGL Champion Pittsburgh in a rematch of the top two teams in the conference from last season.
