Gymnastics Places Second in Tri-Meet at Brown with Bridgeport

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) tied for second place on the uneven bars (9.750), and earned third place finishes on the balance beam (9.825) and the floor exercise (9.875) in the University of New Hampshire's gymnastics team's second place finish in Saturday's tri-meet at Brown University with the University of Bridgeport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
On the vault, New Hampshire finished with a team score of 48.250. O'Leary earned the top score for the team, finishing fourth with a score of 9.750. Marissa Toci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) followed closely behind in fifth place with a 9.675. UNH was narrowly beaten by Bridgeport (48.625), but outscored Brown (47.500) in the event.
The Wildcats performed well on the bars, totaling a score of 48.325. The team tied with Brown in the event, and edged Bridgeport (48.275). Pflieger led the 'Cats, tying for second and earning a 9.750. Bondanza also excelled, recording a 9.725 for fourth place.
On the beam, New Hampshire totaled its highest team score of the afternoon, earning a 48.800. The Wildcats finished first in the event, while Brown (48.735) followed in second and Bridgeport (48.275) came in third. Freehling tied for first on the beam, scoring a personal-best 9.850. Pflieger followed closely in third place with a 9.825. Lia Breeden (York, Pa.) and Ava Watkins (Cherry Hill, N.J.) tied for fourth, each finishing with a 9.800.
The 'Cats also performed well on the floor, totaling a 48.600. New Hampshire outscored Brown (47.925), but was edged out by Bridgeport (49.025) in the event. Pflieger led the team once again in third place, scoring a 9.875. Lexi Calandra (Suffern, N.Y.) was another top performer in the event, totaling a 9.800 and finishing in fifth place.

- The Wildcats finished with the top team scores on the bars and beam. They finished second to only Bridgeport on the vault (48.625 to 48.250), and on the floor (49.025 to 48.600).
- UNH faced lots of adversity, as Danielle Doolin (Medford Lakes, N.J.) was limited due to an illness. She attempted to perform on the floor, but could not finish her last pass.
- New Hampshire freshmen had a great night, competing in 5 of the 24 sets. Freehling led the class of 2020, tying for first on the beam with a career high score of 9.850.
