Tanski Shines Again, Volleyball Defeats BC in Five Sets

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman outside hitter Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) notched her second straight double-double with 14 kills and 22 digs to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-2 set win (21-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 15-12) over Boston College in the final game of the Beantown Challenge at Power Gym.

The Wildcats handled Boston College for the first time since 2003 where they toppled the Eagles in three sets. The all-time series stands at 25-8 in favor of UNH.
Up Next: New Hampshire continues its road contest run at Bryant University on Tuesday, Sept. 6 (7 PM) before heading to Temple University for a tournament. UNH returns home on Sept. 13 (7 PM) to host Harvard University.
-1st set-
No team lead by more than three points in the opening set until the final point as BC pulled out a 25-21 set win. Senior Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) tallied five kills in the first set while classmate Sara Carlson (Hutchinson, Minn.) recorded three.
-2nd set-
The Wildcats started the second set with a 4-0 run which was nearly erased by BC, with the third point earned on a service ace to reduce the deficit to 4-3. The difference was two, 15-13, in favor of the Wildcats before a 5-0 run increased the lead to 20-13 and evened up the sets at one apiece.
-3rd set-
The 'Cats seemed to take another set victory with an 18-8 lead but the Eagles scored four straight points to trail 18-12 capped off by a Anna Skold kill. UNH scored a point but BC rattled off 10 straight points to take a 22-20 lead with two service aces in the final three points. New Hampshire was unable to reclaim to lead, taking a 2-1 set deficit.
-4th set-
New Hampshire needed a win in set four and it was neck and neck with no team leading by more than two points until a bad set by Camille Oemcke of the Eagles' gave UNH at 9-6 lead. New Hampshire began to get about two points for every one BC tally to earn a 25-14 set win and send it to set five tied 2-2.
-5th set-
Boston College raced out to a 4-0 lead in the final round as Sol Calvete recorded two service aces. The Eagles stretched their lead to 8-3 capped off by kills by McKenna Goss and Anna Skold. New Hampshire fought back to knot it up 9-9 with kills from Muses, Bowman and Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas). UNH scored four of the next five points for a 13-10 lead and would wrap up the contest with a 15-12 set win.
