Track & Field’s Shorter and Gilmore Place Top-15 at USATF Junior Championships

EUGUENE, Ore. – Freshmen Julia Shorter (Amesbury, Mass.) and Riley Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) competed at the United States of America Track & Field (USATF) Junior Outdoor Championships over the weekend at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field.
The junior track & field championships include competitors who compete in high school or college under the age of 20.
Shorter placed ninth overall, in 99-degree heat, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11-minutes, 24.80-seconds. This season, Shorter placed sixth at the America East Championships and the New England Championships in the 3K steeplechase.
Gilmore placed 11th in the 3,000-meter race, finishing in 10:41.83. Most recently, the Massachusetts native placed sixth (37:25.21) in the America East Championships and fourth (36:10.46) at the New England Championships.
Redshirt freshman Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) placed first overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase just last season, to jumpstart her season this year.
