Smith Scores 11 Second-Half Points as Men’s Basketball Falls 98-44 to No. 22 SMU

DALLAS, TEXAS – Junior tri-captain Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) scored 14 points, 11 in the second half, as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell 98-44 to No. 22 Southern Methodist University, Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats dropped to 5-3 on the season, snapping a two-game winning streak. The Mustangs improved to 6-0 overall.
UNH was led by Smith who shot 5 of 13 from the field with three 3-pointers and six rebounds. Junior Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) tallied 10 points (3 of 11 shooting) with three rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) notched seven points and four rebounds.
SMU's explosive offense was led by Keith Frazier who recorded 23 points, six of 10 from beyond the arc, and eight rebounds. Shake Milton finished with 20 points, 16 in the second frame. Ben Moore scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds followed by Jordan Tolbert who tallied a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists.
To open the game, Smith and Armstrong scored first for UNH to lead 5-2 early in the contest. SMU scored the next 12 points en route to a 14-5 lead with 14:09 left in the first half. Dion drew a foul beyond the arc in his shooting motion to receive three free throws which he buried to snap the run.
The Wildcats inched within five, 16-11, when Leissner finished a lay up and was fouled. The sophomore converted the and-1 free throw.
The Mustangs rattled off a 10-0 run that featured three dunks from Jordan Tolbert who was flying above the rim most of the afternoon. The stretch was broken when Dion hit his first 3-pointer at 8:12 and SMU up 26-14.
Keith Frazier scored 20 points in the opening stanza, including four treys in the final 6:06 to increase the SMU lead to 50-20 at the break.
Smith attacked the basket in the second half with 11 points through the first 8:13 to trail 62-35.
SMU would outscore the Wildcats 36-9 in the final 12:50 to cement the win.
