Gagnon Leads Men’s Cross Country to a Seventh Place Finish at AE Championship

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior Sam Gagnon (Hooksett, N.H.) placed 13th overall to lead the University of New Hampshire men's cross country team to a seventh place finish at the America East Championship at Stony Brook University, Saturday morning.
Gagnon paced all Wildcats in the 8K race, breaking the tape in 25 minutes, 29.17 seconds for his top finish at the conference finals. His finish earns him Second Team All-Conference honors, another first for the senior.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell secured its first league title in any sport since joining the conference with 42 points. Stony Brook finished second with 74 points followed by Binghamton University who scored 78 points for third place. The University of Maine and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County finished fourth (95 points) and fifth (107 points), respectively. A spot before UNH, Vermont scored 144 points. To round out the final standings, the University at Albany placed eighth overall with 176 points followed by the University of Hartford who scored 264.
Junior Mitchell Dutton (Salem, N.H.) secured the 27th position finishing the race in 26:10.24. In 34th, sophomore Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) wrapped up the 8K in 26:27.44 followed by junior Ryan Chiesa (Stockholm, N.J.) in 36th with a time of 26:33.29.
Outdoor track & field star sophomore Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) placed 43rd overall with an 8K time of 26:42.94. Freshmen Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) and Cody Symonds (Alton, N.H.) round out the final UNH scorers with 45th (26:45.07) and 58th place (27:02.93) finishes, respectively.
New Hampshire will compete next at the NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 13 at Franklin Park in Boston.
