DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell to Holy Cross on Thursday evening in their home opener by a score of 3-0 at Bremner Field.

The Wildcats slip to 1-2-0 on the season while the Crusaders improve to 3-0-0 on the year.

Senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) and junior Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) paved the way for the Wildcats offense with three shots each in the game.

The Crusaders outshot the 'Cats by a small margin of shots (14-13). Sophomore netminder Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) made six saves in 90 minutes of play falling to 1-2-0 on the season.

Holy Cross posted the first goal in the 24th minute of action. Off a corner kick, junior Sarah Price headed a ball on net that bounced off of Borkan. Christiana Napolitano got the rebound and launched the ball into the net to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later Alex Weyrauch took a shot from the right side that deflected off a UNH defender and into the back of the net. Weyrauch tallied her second goal of the game just over three minutes later (37:54).

Borkan came up with some key saves in the second half to stop the Crusaders from increasing their lead.

New Hampshire had back-to-back shots on goal in the 48th and 49th minutes but it was not enough as senior goalie Carly McCabe was able preserve the clean sheet, her second of the season.

The Wildcats hit the road on Sunday, Aug. 31 at Northeastern University in non-conference action for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
