Jaleen Smith, a senior from Freeport, Texas, recorded his first career triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the UNH men’s basketball team to a season-opening 85-60 victory against Lesley University at Lundholm Gym on Nov. 11.
Jaleen made 6 of 10 field goal attempts, including 1 of 2 from 3-point range, and 7 of 10 free throws for his game-high 20 points in 35 minutes of action. His other numbers included one block and a steal.
The 6-foot-4 guard nearly recorded the triple-double – the first in UNH head coach Bill Herrion’s 12-year tenure – in the first half with 12 points, 10 rebound and eight assists in the opening 20 minutes.
Last year as a junior, Jaleen was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team as he ranked No. 5 in the nation in free throw percentage. He ranked second on the team and 10th in the conference in scoring (13.4 ppg). Jaleen also led the team in assists (3.4 per game) and was third in rebounding (5.5 rpg).
