Joshua Hoffman, a sophomore from Litchfield, N.H., broke the UNH men’s track & field record in the discus with a throw of 179 feet-1 inch at the 2022 America East Track & Field Championships on May 8. That record throw earned a silver medal.
Joshua was in first place among the 19 student-athletes in the discus with a Round 1 throw of 175-6. He increased the leading mark to 176-2 in Round 2 before breaking the school record with a throw of 179-1 in Round 4. Joshua remained atop the discus leaderboard until Round 6, when a thrower from UAlbany broke the conference record with a mark of 186-8.
Joshua supplanted the UNH benchmark of 173-1 established by Reed Liset in 2007. Joshua’s school-record throw of 179-1 also bested his previous best of 172-2 set this past April at the College of the Holy Cross.
He also placed 14th in the shot put at the America East championship meet this past weekend with a mark of 44-11.5.
The UNH men’s track & field team returns to action May 13-14 at the New England Championships and the IC4A Championships.
