‘Cats win second straight

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Junior forward Ava VanBuskirk (Marlborough, Mass.) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field.

Sophomore forward Alyssa Gimmel (North Ridgeville, Ohio) also recorded her first collegiate goal, while sophomore defender Abby Beasley (Fishers, Ind.) scored her first goal of the season. Senior midfielder Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore forward Lindsay Lenhard (Spencerport, N.Y.) each tallied two assists. Lenhard's pair of assists marked the first points of her UNH career.

Senior goalkeeper Sonja Zeepvat (Mendham, N.J.) made five saves to earn her second victory of the season.

The Wildcats secured their second consecutive win and improved to 2-1-2 on the year, while the Huskies dropped to 2-2-2.

UNH opened the scoring in the 23rd minute (22:50) when VanBuskirk buried a loose ball from six yards out into the upper-left corner for a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute (32:25). Lenhard delivered a perfectly placed chip pass to Gimmel, who finished from five yards out.

Zeepvat helped preserve the shutout through halftime with three first-half saves.
UNH extended its lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute (51:22) when Beasley headed home a corner kick from Finn.

VanBuskirk struck again in the 65th minute (64:29), heading in a pass from Finn from eight yards out to make it 4-0. Lenhard also earned an assist on the play.

Northeastern got on the scoreboard in the 71st minute (70:27) when Ava Nace scored on a header.
