DURHAM, N.H. – Jenny Simpson (New Canaan, Conn.), a senior attacker and captain on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, is one of seven nominees on the ballot for the 2013 America East Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year award.
Voting is taking place on the league's Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/AmericaEast?DB_OEM_ID=14000 – now and continues until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30. The winner will be announced that afternoon.
Simpson, who has started all 15 games, leads UNH in goals (41) and points (46) as well as shots (76). She also ranks third in shooting percentage (.562), fifth in both ground balls and draw controls as well as tied for fourth in caused turnovers. Simpson has recorded 14 points (12 goals, two assists) in five games against nationally-ranked teams.
With those statistics, Simpson ranks fourth in the America East conference in goals (2.73 per game) and ninth in points (3.07 ppg).
Simpson has tallied at least one point – and scored a goal – in 14 of 15 games with 13 multiple-point efforts, including 12 multiple-goal performances. She opened the season with a goal in 12 consecutive games, including a career-high six-goal game at UConn (03/06) in which she recorded her 100th career point. Her other season highlights include her 100th career goal at Binghamton (04/06); she also broke a 12-12 tie with one second remaining in that game to lift the Wildcats to victory.
UNH's Kate Keagins was voted the 2012 America East Women's Lacrosse Fans' Choice Player of the Year. She received 31 percent of the votes cast (338 of 1,079).
New Hampshire concludes the 2013 regular season April 27 (12 p.m.) at UMBC.
