DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team held its annual awards banquet Thursday evening at the Alumni Center on the UNH campus. At the event, junior Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) was named the team's Most Valuable Player, sophomore Lindsay Adams (Theresa, N.Y.) recevied the Best Defensive Player award, while freshman Ebony Woods (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named the team's Most Improved Player. Senior Emily Caschera (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was the recipient of the Coaches' Award.




WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.), a junior center on the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team, was named to the America East Women's Basketball Championship all-championship team announced after Saturday's conference tournament final.




HARTFORD, Conn.— The University of Maine (25-4) saw a 22-point lead whittled down to a final margin of just six, but held on to defeat the University of New Hampshire (13-16), 71-65, in the first semifinal game of the Friendship Cottage Cheese America East Championship.

With the win, UNH (13-15) advances to face regular season champion Maine (24-4), the winners of 20-straight games in Friday's first semifinal at 6 p.m..

VESTAL, N.Y. — Rachel Laws scored a game-winning basket with 10 seconds to go to end a furious comeback by the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team and give Binghamton University a 70-68 America East victory in the final regular season game for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

New Hampshire, which moved into a tie for fourth place in America East with the Seawolves with the win, improved to 11-14 overall and 6-8 in America East, while Stony Brook is also 6-8 in the league and 8-17 overall. The 'Cats won their fourth game in five outings.




DURHAM, N.H. - Lindsay Adams (Theresa, N.Y.) netted a career-high 20 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 67-66 win over Boston University, the third-place team in America East, Wednesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The Wildcats have now won three out of their last four and stand at 5-8 in America East and 10-14 overall. BU now stands at 11-13 overall and 8-5 in the league. The win also clinched a slot in the upcoming America East tournament for the 'Cats.

UNH, which entered the game winners of its last two contests, now stand at 9-14 overall and 4-8 in America East play. The Catamounts captured their fourth in a row and improved to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in the league.

The win moves the 'Cats to 9-13, (4-7 America East) while Albany falls to 9-13 (3-8 AE).

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Aubrey Danen (Oconomowoc, Wis.) became the 11th player in University of New Hampshire women's basketball history to record 1,000 career points Wednesday evening as the Wildcats dropped a 69-52 decision to Maine Wednesday evening in front of 1,030 at Lundholm Gymnasium. The Black Bears captured their 11th straight game and moved to 15-4 overall and 8-0 in America East, while New Hampshire drops to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in the league.




STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) notched her 11th double-double of the season with 27 points and 11 rebounds, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to Stony Brook 90-72 Sunday afternoon at the SBU Sports complex. Matthias has now recorded three-straight double-doubles and five in the last six games.




BURLINGTON, VT. - Despite Maren Matthias' (Guilford, Conn.) 10th double-double of the season with 26 points and 12 rebounds, the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to the University of Vermont, 76-70, on Wednesday at Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vermont.

DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire women's basketball coach Sue Johnson announced today that five student-athletes have recently signed national letters-of-intent to enroll at UNH and play for the Wildcats beginning in 2003-04. The five are Danielle Clark (Corinna, Maine), Kate Dillon (Overland Park, Kansas), Whitney Edwards (Mount Vernon, N.Y.), Salee-Marie Johnson (Brampton, Ontario) and Ray Williams (Mississauga, Ontario).




MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Geneva Livingston's (Red Bank, N.J.) fallaway jumper from the right baseline with 1.1 seconds left lifted the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 71-69 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday night at the Klotsche Center. UNH won its second straight and improves to 4-3 on the season.




DURHAM, N.H. - Behind 19 points and 14 rebounds from senior Aubrey Danen (Oconomowoc, Wis.), the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team posted a 75-54 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) in women's basketball action Tuesday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium. New Hampshire evened its record at 3-3 on the season, while the Terriers dropped to 0-4.

The loss equals the Wildcats record at 1-1 on the season.

BOSTON - The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the America East preseason coaches poll released Tuesday. Vermont, which was the regular season champion in 2001-02, was picked first, followed by Boston University and Maine. The 'Cats garnered a total of 36 points.
