University of New Hampshire Cheerleading - Tryout Information
- Due to the COVID-19 crisis we will not be holding a physical tryout this year.
- We will not resume physical practices, camps, meetings, or events until deemed safe to do so by UNH and the CDC.
- Tryouts will be conducted by VIDEO SUBMISSION ONLY.

- $30 tryout fee - to be paid online.
- Registration will also be found on this website.
- Registration, video submission, and tryout fee due by May 9, 2020.
- This is the only tryout for the 2020-2021 team. There will not be a fall tryout.
- All UNH students are eligible to tryout. (Part time, full time, incoming freshman, and grad students)
- UNH Cheerleading does NOT have specific skill requirements to make the team. Athletes will be evaluated in all areas of cheerleading.
- UNH Cheer is hoping to have a COED team this year! Male applicants are encouraged. No experience necessary!
- Cheerleading experience is not necessary, we welcome gymnasts, dancers, and tumblers to tryout.
- Returning team members from 2019-2020 do not need to submit a video tryout. You need to register and submit payment only.
Tryout Checklist:
- Completed UNH Tryout Registration Form
- Submitted $30 tryout fee - (included in registration form)

- Submission deadline: May 9, 2020.
Video Submission Requirements:
- Please be sure videos are clear and easy to follow/understand.
- Skills can be a collection of skills from practices, games, competitions, or newly created/filmed.
- You can upload the video to YouTube and share the link with us via email. Hightail and dropbox can be used as well. (do not attach videos as an email attachment)
- Use the most current skill videos as possible.
- Team performance videos are ok, please be sure to specify who you are.
- If you are not able to perform all skill categories, please don't panic. Send us what you can do comfortably and safely.
- Its not required to submit every category.
- Skills can be performed on flat foam, spring floor, or grass surfaces.
- All video submissions will receive an email response so you’ll know we received it.
- Tryout videos will not be opened or viewed until we receive your registration and payment.
- Tryout results will be posted on this website as well as our social media platforms the week of May 11. The list will include the names of ONLY those who have been selected for the team. If you do not see your name, you did not make the team.
- It is the coaches discretion as to who makes the team.
- We understand that gyms may be closed due to Covid-19. Skill videos that are not current are ok.
- Tryout video submissions are confidential, videos will not be shared public.
What to include in your tryout video:
- Your best standing tumbling skills.
- Your best running tumbling skills.
- Your best double jump combination.
- Demonstration of your stunting capabilities. We’d like to see transitional stunting elements; release skills, full-ups, inversions, dismounts etc. *Flyers only, please demonstrate body positions in the air or on the ground.
- Bonus: Dance, cheer, or motions showcasing showmanship and performance.
- Any other strengths or skills that would showcase why you should be considered as a potential team member.
- Be sure to introduce yourself so we can get to know you!
Tryout/Spring/Summer Timeline & Important Dates:
- Tryout registration, payment, and video due by May 9, 2020.
- Tryout results will be posted the week of May 11, 2020.
- Contingent on when the university’s full release to participate on campus is allowed, we will practice 3-5 times during June/July - Dates and times TBD.
- NCA Pre-camp & Camp will be August 6-11 2020. Attendance for this camp is MANDATORY, no exceptions.
Miscellaneous team information:
* You must be available during UNH Spring Break 2021. UNH Cheerleading will have pre-nationals work week during that time.
* Rushing or joining a sorority is NOT allowed.
* Participating on an All-Star Cheerleading Team is not allowed unless pre-approved by the coaches.
* This team has a strict attendance policy. We expect full team attendance at all times. We make exceptions for class schedules only. We ask for the athlete to try to arrange their class schedule and exams not to conflict when possible. We do not go around work schedules, or extra activities/groups at UNH. Beginning in the fall, you will have ONE UNEXCUSED absence to use during first semester (you may miss practice or a game 1 time without penalty) You may not use the absence for pre-camp, NCA camp, homecoming, or recruit clinics. We do not allow absences during winter break or second semester. We practice once a week during winter break. We will not have practices for two weeks during break - December 20, 2020 - January 2, 2021.
- We are flexible during winter break for those athletes who live further than 2 hours away. Attending some break practices will still be required. Schedules will be given in advance. Coaches will assess flexibility on a case-to-case basis.
- You will be responsible for making your own travel & housing arrangements during winter break games, winter break practices, and 2021 Spring Break work week.
- If you make the team you will be financially obligated to pay for the cost of NCA Camp and practice wear. Roughly $400 - $500.
- Additional financial obligations include purchase of select team gear items, and participating in various fundraisers for the program.
* If you quit, become injured, or get removed from the team you will not be refunded for any prior expenses paid.
