Meghan Guarente takes aim at the net and gives UNH a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team to Sunday afternoon's 3-0 win against LIU at Wildcat Stadium.
Guarente scored the second goal in the 48th minute and then set up the goal by sophomore Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.) in the 56th minute. Grad student captain Anna Hewlett (Webster, N.Y.) netted the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 44th minute.
Redshirt junior captain Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.) made three saves to record her second shutout of the season and 10th of her career.
LIU goalie Keely Thomas was credited with eight saves in 83:32 of action. Sofia Shakham did not face a shot on goal the rest of the way.
UNH is now 3-1-1 and LIU moved to 0-4-0.

FIRST HALF
- UNH controlled play a majority of the first half to generate a 14-1 shot advantage with a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
- The Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick with 59.3 seconds on the clock and Hewlett calmly swept a right-footed low shot inside the right post to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
SECOND HALF
- New Hampshire continued to control play the final 45 minutes and scored two more goals on a 13-3 shot advantage and 3-1 edge in corners.
- Ally Giovino (Westford, Mass.) set up the second goal with a service into the box. Guarente chipped the ball to the left to avoid the charging Thomas, tracked down the loose ball near the end line and slipped a shot across the goalmouth inside the right post for a 2-0 lead at 47:28.
- Finn extended the lead to 3-0 at 55:51 when her blast from 20 yards on the right side sailed inside the far post. Guarente, who made the pass back to Finn, was credited with the assist.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Guarente's three goals this season is tied atop UNH's leaderboard and she has a team-high seven points.
- She has factored in multiple goals in a game nine times in her career.
- Rainey has stopped 24 of 28 shots on goal this season for a 0.80 GAA and .857 save percentage.
- It was Hewlett's first goal since the 2021 season. She has four career tallies.
- Finn scored her first career goal.
- Giovino's assist was her first point as a Wildcat. The grad student is a transfer from Colgate.
- New Hampshire matched its highest goal output of the season.
- UNH's 27 shots marked a season high.
