Ginny Delacruz Scored Her First Goal as a Wildcat
UNH Earns 2-0 Win Over Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Merrimack College on Wednesday night at Martone-Mejail Field.
Senior Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) put the Wildcats ahead with the first goal of the game, blasting a shot into the net after a setup from Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.) in the 16th minute. Graduate transfer Ginny Delacruz (Fairfax, Va.) scored the game's final goal in the 25th minute.
Redshirt junior captain Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.), the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, made one save to record her third shutout of the season and 11th of her career.
Merrimack starting goalie Lilianna Mantoni and backup Kaitlyn Brewi were credited with six saves and three saves, respectively.
The 'Cats improve to 4-1-1 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 2-3-1.

- UNH returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 8, against Boston University at Wildcat Stadium. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
FIRST HALF
- Guarente opened the scoring for UNH, sprinting onto a perfectly placed through ball from Finn and calmly firing it into the back of the net at the 16:14 mark.
- Delacruz doubled the Wildcats' lead to 2-0 at 24:48. After receiving a pass from Ally Giovino (Westford, Mass.), Delacruz took a touch past a defender and launched a high-arching shot from 35 yards out, sending it over the outstretched arms of the Merrimack keeper.
- With 30 seconds left in the half, the 'Cats nearly added to their lead when Elaina Grenz (River Edge, N.J.) fired a powerful shot that careened off the crossbar.
- UNH controlled the pace for much of the first half, resulting in a 13-5 shot advantage (6-1 in shots on goal) and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks
SECOND HALF
- The Wildcats kept up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Warriors 12-6, including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. However, neither team found the back of the net in the final 45 minutes.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Delacruz scored her first goal as a Wildcat.
- Guarente notched a goal for the second consecutive game. She has now scored a goal in 4 of 6 contests this season.
- Rainey and the 'Cats defense earned their third clean sheet of the season and second consecutive.
