Rainey Records Seven Saves in 1-0 Loss to UConn

DURHAM, N.H. – Redshirt junior and captain Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.) recorded seven saves but the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was edged 1-0 by UConn on Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
Rainey was credited with four saves in the first half and held the Huskies scoreless in the second half with three saves.
UConn's Anna Carson scored the lone goal of the game in the 21st minute and goalie Kaitlyn Mahoney was credited with one save.
UNH is now 2-1-1 and UConn improved to 1-1-1.

FIRST HALF
- On a direct kick from 45 yards near the right sideline, Carson's right-footed service into the box caromed off the left post into the goal at 20:04.
- In the 27th minute, Alayna Taylor's shot from 30 yards on the right wing ricocheted off the crossbar.
- In the 34th minute, UNH advanced the ball down the left wing and Ally Giovino (Westford, Mass.) struck a low shot near the left post that was stopped by Mahoney.
- Rainey denied Chioma Okafor one minute later and again in the 40th minute to keep the 'Cats within one goal heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF
- Rainey made her fourth save of the game in the 53rd minute and made a leaping effort to deny Abbey Jones in the 56th minute.
- In the 68th minute, Giovino's shot was snared by Mahoney wide of the left post.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- In two games this week, Rainey stopped 16 of 18 shots on goal for a .889 save percentage and 1.00 GAA.
- UNH has scored six goals and allowed four goals through four games.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UConn finished with an 18-2 shot advantage that included 8-1 on goal.
- The Huskies had a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
