Men’s Soccer Adds Matthew Goncalves to Roster

Cornell graduate transfer to join the Wildcats.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer program has announced the signing of graduate student forward Matthew Goncalves (Everett, Mass.). Goncalves is a graduate transfer from Cornell.
"Matt brings a wealth of experience, relentless energy and an unrelenting passion to Wildcat Stadium," said head coach Rich Weinrebe. "He is selfless in his work on the field and is a high-character, internally motivated individual off the field. We are excited for his impact, on and off the field."
Goncalves was a four-year member of the Cornell men's soccer team from 2020-2023. He posted five goals and six assists for 16 career points. Goncalves also recorded three game-winning goals. During the 2022 season, Goncalves was named the NCAA and Ivy League Player of the Week as Cornell advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his time at Cornell, he was a three-time All-ISL selection and was named to the All-New England Team as a senior at the Belmont Hill School. Goncalves was the Team MVP in 2019. He scored 61 career goals and set the school record for goals. He graduated from the Belmont Hill School in 2020.

The Wildcats concluded the 2023 season with a 13-3-4 record and advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. UNH was the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament which was the highest seed in program history. The Wildcats defeated defending national champions Syracuse, 3-0, in the second round and then fell to No. 9 seed and eventual national champions Clemson, 1-0, in the first-ever Round of 16 game played at Wildcat Stadium.
